Her song is a cover of Oliver Mtukudzi’s original. I think she’s done justice to a beautiful, poignant piece.
It’s a about perseverance and hope in the face of difficulty, and the promise that God is with you. It feels like a balm to my soul – I hope you enjoy both the Mare and Mtukudzi versions as much as I do. Listen to Cynthia talking about the song here.
Cynthia Mare was born in Harare, Zimbabwe and has performed a number of Zimbabwe-focused songs like Hatina musha panyika – a real tear-jerker. She’s also recorded songs such as The diet song for the UK and worldwide markets.
